Adventure DTS – September 2019

September 24, 2019 to February 28, 2020

A life of ADVENTURE!

Being a disciple is a life-long adventure of following God! Whether you’re working in the heart of a mega-city, or in a remote desert; in a business, at home, or missions; whatever you do with the rest of your life, be prepared for the adventure that awaits!

Start YOUR adventure here!

The Adventure DTS is a remarkable journey that will give you the opportunity to fully focus on Jesus, hear his voice and step into the calling He has for your life. You will be stretched in your faith as you learn more about yourself and discover the heart of God for the world He has made.

The adventure has a purpose, and the purpose is the pursuit of God’s plan. As the Apostle Paul said,

One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Knowing God and Making Him Known

This is what the DTS is all about. Knowing God more, discovering who God made you to be and using your unique talents to extend His kingdom.

The five month course begins with a three month lecture phase, consisting of challenging and life changing teachings on relevant topics such as: Hearing God’s Voice, Character and Nature of God, Evangelism and many more (more details below).

Up next is the outreach phase where you’ll undertake a two month, cross cultural missions trip. During this time you will have the opportunity to put into practice all that you’ve learnt, through practical tasks such as evangelism and mercy ministries (more details below).

Our Location – Breathtaking Tasmania!

The Adventure DTS is based at our YWAM centre in breathtaking Tasmania. Located on a 200 acre property just outside Hobart, we are surrounded by beautiful farmland. We share the property with various forms of Australian wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies and wombats. A great place to experience God!

We will be running a week-long Niko program as part of the Adventure DTS. Niko is a Greek word which means “to conquer or to overcome.” It is a five-day wilderness leadership training program where you take risks to discover more about who God has made you to be. Your learning environment will be the great outdoors, the classroom of life. You will learn skills vital to working as a team, being a leader, and pushing yourself beyond limits you thought you could never overcome. As an individual or a group you learn to surrender your individual rights and learn new levels of interdependence with others. The most important aspect is to grow in your dependence on God.

During the DTS, we will also travel to Melbourne and Adelaide, giving you the opportunity to engage with YWAM in three diverse locations.

tasmania mountainsTasmania is home to world heritage listed rainforest and alpine wilderness areas, spectacular landscapes, rugged highlands and quiet solitary beaches. We’ll have the opportunity to explore some of these during the DTS.
study the bible

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Lecture Phase

During the Lecture Phase we’ll dig deep into the character of God and find out how His love transforms our lives. As a DTS community we come before the Lord daily to learn from Him and apply His word to our lives. Through the work of the Holy Spirit and the personal application of biblical truth, transformation takes place.

Living in community, working with and learning from people of different cultures and personalities, brings about a deeper perspective of God’s world. This further equips each student to serve God’s purposes by strengthening a commitment to reach the lost, especially the unreached, to care for the poor, and to influence all areas of society.

As you grow in relationship with God, you will also be empowered to share His love with others. You will learn about evangelism, missions and extending God’s hope to the poor and needy. Each week, you will have opportunities to put into practice the principles you learn, in our local community and the city of Hobart.

outreach in the world

Whichever outreach location you choose:
• You will grow in confidence as you see God using you show His love to others.
• You will gain a greater perspective of the world and what God is doing.
You will see great needs and be part of God’s solution

Outreach Phase

Outreach will involve sharing God’s transforming love with people who desperately need it. There are communities all over the globe lacking the basic necessities of life: food, water, clothing, shelter and health care. People are crying out for someone to come alongside them as the hands and feet of Christ to show them the love of the Father.

Our DTS outreach teams go and find the lost wherever they are, and then demonstrate the love of God in whatever way they can. Our heart is to go where there is physical and spiritual need and practically demonstrate God’s love by helping to meet those needs. It’s all about bringing the love of Christ to people through our lives and through the gifts that God has given us.
