Way back a long, long time ago (well actually 1987) Mark and Helen Brokenshire were approached about coming to Adelaide to start up a new training center here. After hearing God say, “Go!” they ran a Discipleship Training School with a dedicated team of Staff who also felt the call to go to South Australia.

Now our base is nestled in the Adelaide Hills, 15 minutes from the city centre of Adelaide. Vineyards, orchards and a National park surround us. It is a large home on 25 acres of land, which is ideal for our schools and community development projects. In the early years, the building was used as a Governors Mansion and then a children’s home. We often have people returning to this place asking to look through and reminisce about their childhood and we hear many of their stories.

Our place is very scenic and great if you like bush walking, abseiling, climbing trees or just pondering the beauty of nature. We are surrounded by many kinds of animals, sheep, ducks, chooks (chickens), rabbits, guinea pigs, a cow, a dog and cat and of course the occasional visit from the kangaroos, foxes and koalas.

There is always a cup of coffee and a good talk available at the Sunroom

But if it’s the city life you like, then it is just a 10-minute drive down the hill to hit the shopping centres, movies and great places to eat out. Adelaide has a population of 1 million people, so you have the benefit of all the facilities of a city without the over crowding and hectic pace of traffic. Adelaide is known throughout Australia as the City of Arts and so if you are into Art Galleries, Theatre, Street Entertainment and Festivals, then Adelaide is the place to come.

The weather in Adelaide is hot in summer and cold in winter: a great training ground for all parts of the world. We do actually have 4 seasons but sometimes you are not sure when one starts and the other stops. It’s great in summer to be able to hit the beaches on those balmy summer nights. The beach is across town from us but is only about 35 minutes in the car so not too far. Of course, there are plenty of swimming pools nearby if you do not enjoy the beach.

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia, the only state in Australia founded by free settlers, who came to this beautiful part of the world with a heart to see worship being free from the shackles of religion. Our heart still beats for that goal! In a city that it’s being transformed day by day with the arrivals of international students, refugees and migrants from all over the world, the encounter of cultures and generations is creating a place with a new beat, a new groove that has unique colours, flavours and light. Adelaide is also a place with a need for people that have a heart to create community to integrate the different people, cultures and traditions, to look for the forgotten and abandon in the multitudes, to love with the passion of Jesus and shape a generation that will transform not only the city and the state, but that will influence Australia and the nations.
